Nice-OM violence: the supporter who gave a Nazi salute in the stands sentenced to one year in prison

Justice has been served. Almost two months after the incidents that punctuated the Ligue 1 Nice-OM meeting, the trial of an OGCN supporter who gave a Nazi salute was held this Wednesday evening. The so-called Arnaud B, 30, was sentenced to a one-year suspended prison sentence and a 3-year ban on sports grounds for “inciting racial hatred and apologizing for war crimes and crimes against humanity. The latter had been placed in detention for 18 days and appeared free on Wednesday before the Nice Criminal Court. This supporter of the Aiglons had made the gesture of the kippah and a Nazi salute during this classic of the L1.

The defense lawyer presented his client as a supporter who “was neither aware of nor willing to defend a crime against Humanity,” reports France Bleu Azur. What happened that evening, for Maître Mathurin Lauze, was “the World Cup of human stupidity. He added, “you do not judge a nostalgic for the Third Reich, nor a follower of nauseating ideologies, but someone a little less equipped than others who have come to the slippage”.

The supporter regretted his “horrible” gesture, which he explains as a simple provocation towards the Marseillais. “I am not affiliated with any group, with any forum. The Marseillais show the Niçois as fascists and I fell into it. I am causing harm to the people of Nice because it is a reputation that they are given and I have broken them down, ”commented the litigant. “I hurt a lot of people doing this, I regret it and I apologize. I cannot go back. I contacted the police to assume it, ”he said above all. He explained that he had consumed two beers that evening and was taking treatment for depression.

A first supporter, tried in mid-September for having kicked Dimitri Payet, had been sentenced to a one-year suspended prison sentence and five years of stadium ban. The trial of five other Nice supporters suspected of having invaded the lawn was postponed next February.
