JJ Watt, injured; could miss the rest of the year
Bad news for Cardinals. Via Adam Schefter of ESPN, this Wednesday night it was confirmed that the DE J.J. Watt will undergo shoulder surgery that is likely to end his 2021 NFL Season. No date has been set for the surgery yet, but Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, He adds that Watt will have an estimated three-month rehab time, so eventually, he might not be able to return to the field this year.
Watt suffered the shoulder injury in the second quarter of Arizona’s game against Houston on Sunday, and even so, he managed to play the rest of the game, but now it is known that the price for doing so was too high. Watt was designated as a “non-participant” in the Cardinals’ practices all three days this week, and previously yesterday afternoon he had already been ruled out for Thursday Night Football against Green Bay.

Saints acquire Mark Ingram from Texans
An old acquaintance returns to New Orleans. Via Tom Pelissero of NFL Media, this Wednesday it was confirmed that Saints acquired via trade to RB Mark Ingram from the Texans. The full terms of the deal are unknown at this time, but late-round draft picks are expected to be involved.
Ingram, an 11-year NFL veteran, was originally a first-round pick for the Saints in 2011, where he stayed for 8 seasons. He ranks second in franchise history in rushing yards (6,007) and, with his return, he can probably claim the all-time record as RB Deuce McAllister, who played from 2001 to 2008 at New Orleans, has a total of 6,096 yards.

The NFL makes changes to the Rooney Rule
Last Tuesday, for the first time since 2019, the owners of all 32 NFL teams met in person in Manhattan, New York; and this Wednesday, Tom Pelissero from NFL Media, made it known through a memorandum that, as a result of the fall annual meeting, there were some changes in the Rooney Rule.
Among the changes made to the rule, an earlier start will be allowed for head coach hires, in the hope of creating more job opportunities for minority candidates. Teams with an open spot available to HC can now conduct virtual interviews with candidates beginning in the last two weeks of the regular season, as long as the employer team consents.
In addition, the league will require teams to interview at least two outside minority candidates for the position of general manager and for all coordinator roles – offensive, defensive, special teams – open (A position is considered “open” if the position is original person who started the season in the position is no longer employed by the team in question, or if they have received a notice that they will no longer be with the team the following season).
Another notable point is that the NFL will require franchises to forcibly conduct an in-person interview for at least one minority candidate for HC or GM vacancies, while interviews for some coordination can be conducted virtually, although it is also recommended to conduct them in person. In fact, the league office will track whether interviews for these positions are being conducted virtually or in person, and all teams will be asked to provide this information within three days of the interview.

Javon Kinlaw could miss the rest of the season
The ghost of injuries once again attacks the 49ers. Shanahan denies New England tried to acquire Jimmy G
