NFL: Joe Flacco to the rescue of the Jets in a deal with the Eagles

The New York Jets needed backup at quarterback with Zach Wilson’s injury and they looked to the Philadelphia Eagles for it.

According to what Ian Rapoport reported from NFL Network, the New York squad got their hands on quarterback Joe Flacco in return for a sixth round pick in the next draft. He could become a fifth round pick depending on Flacco’s playing time.

The Jets must go without the services of quarterback Zach Wilson for at least two weeks, after he sustained a ligament injury to his knee on Sunday in the grueling 54-13 loss to the New England Patriots.

With Wilson’s departure, Mike White took over during this game. He threw a touchdown pass and suffered two interceptions while completing 20 of his 32 passes for 202 yards. It was the first time he saw action in the NFL, he who also found himself in the organization of the Dallas Cowboys to start his career in 2018.

The 36-year-old Flacco is back with the Jets after playing five games with the team last season. He threw six touchdown passes against three interceptions.

Broncos add linebacker

Hard hit by injury, the Denver Broncos acquired inside linebacker Kenny Young from the Los Angeles Rams, four days after they were outmatched by running back De’Ernest Johnson, normally a reservist with the Cleveland Browns.

The two clubs also traded late picks for the 2024 draft, with the Rams (6-1) securing a sixth-round draft and the Broncos (3-4) a seventh-round pick.

Young is completing the final year of the contract he signed as a rookie. His move to Denver means more employment for rookie player Ernest Jones, a third-round pick who has been involved in 45 defensive streaks so far.

The Broncos, who have lost their last four games, have been hit hard by injuries at the inside linebacker. Josey Jewell and Alexander Johnson, the two team starters at that position, will not play this season due to tears in the pectoral muscle.

Johnson’s replacement Micah Kiser left Thursday’s game against the Browns in the first half with a groin injury. The next day, his name was placed on the injured list.

Finally, Curtis Robinson, an undrafted and recalled player from the practice squad, is bothered by wrist and thumb injuries against the Browns.

In a Broncos’ 17-14 loss to the Browns, Johnson amassed 146 yards on 22 carries. He also caught two passes for gains of 22 yards.
