Mounié and Brest wake up, Ben Yedder in sleep

The big performances of Mounié and Faivre which contrast with the Monegasque absences, find the tops and the flops of Brest-Monaco (2-0).

Tops

Mounié, head and legs
In a thankless role that suits him so well, Steve Mounié had a full match this Sunday, during Brest’s victory over ASM (2-0). Beyond his goal, his second this season, full of opportunism at the far post (19th), the Beninese shone in a register that we know him less, keeping balls in front. Close to scoring an exceptional goal on a distant end (25th), the former Montpellier player also offered a characteristic physical challenge to a Monegasque rearguard yet provided in the field (11 aerial duels won out of 18).

Faivre and Pierre-Gabriel, in good memory of Monaco
Monaco crucified by its former players. If they are not directly involved on the scoreboard, Romain Faivre and Ronaël Pierre-Gabriel both delivered a first-rate match. The first city, very close to Milan this summer, shone as well on its right side as in the midfield. If he sometimes missed narrowly in his passes, he kicks the free kick to open the scoring (19th) and is at the origin of the second goal (79th). He failed to score a direct corner (87th) before leaving under the ovation of Francis-Le Blé a few minutes later. For his part, his friend Pierre-Gabriel alone extinguished the left side of Monaco. 8 duels out of 11 won before becoming emboldened at the end of the match on the right wing.

Brest and Der Zakarian, premiere
In a Francis Le Blé stadium glowing for the 20 years of the local Ultras, Stade Brestois scored its first home victory since March. A first victory so much anticipated by the Finistériens and their new coach Michel Der Zakarian. “The coach asked us to be well in place and we were realistic», Noted Honorat, author of the 2e goal, at the microphone of Canal+. The plan to press high and wait for Monegasque mistakes has worked wonderfully for the former Montpellier coach, who is avoiding sinking into doubt.

Flops

Ben Yedder, ghostly
The Monegasque captain shone with… his clumsiness. Obviously lacking in rhythm, like his friend Kevin Volland, the French international was eclipsed by the intensity set by the Brest rearguard. His match comes down to his frustration over several lost duels (10), which led him to a logical warning at the end of the game for his 7th (!) Foul of the match (81st). Before that, he always lacked promptness, as when it takes too long to start on a recovery error from Brest (72nd). An evening to forget.

Henrique-Diop, tears on the left
If Pierre-Gabriel delivered a high quality fight to the right of the Brest defense, it is also because adversity has never been there. Released at half-time, Sofiane Diop had a day without like his entire team. At the limit of the red card for a dangerous tackle on his vis-à-vis (41st), the Monegasque nugget had previously shone for his ineffectiveness on a set piece. Caio Henrique, who accompanied him on the left, experienced as much waste. Yet in view this season, the Brazilian, yet served in good conditions, has often made the wrong choice, as when he chooses the strike instead of crossing (39th). Clumsy in both surfaces, since it fails to offer Honorat the second goal before leaving (60th). Once the two were replaced by Golovin and Jakobs, Monaco regained strength before the second goal was knocked out.
