The 2021/2022 season of the Valencia Municipal Sports Games kicks off with the start of most of the competitions, specifically the first basketball, handball and futsal matches of this new year. The athletics, chess, hockey and rugby competition started earlier, and later, on November 5 and 6, it will be the turn of volleyball, while, in the disciplines of fencing and badminton, we will have to wait until January. The 2021/2022 season has seen an increase in the participation of girls and boys in the tests. In total, there are currently 6,740 minors registered, almost 700 more than in the previous season, and it is expected that, until the closing of registrations, 1,000 more will be added.
In this sense, it is important to highlight the growth in the number of boys and girls who will participate in the Municipal Sports Games in team sports. For example, in the case of basketball, this year 61 more teams have been registered and a total of 1972 girls and boys. The greatest increase, however, has been registered in the futsal discipline, with 79 more teams than in the 2020/2021 season and 2,697 minors registered. Participation in rugby and handball is also growing. And it will continue to increase with fencing and badminton.
The Municipal Sports Games of Valencia are an initiative of the Generalitat, in collaboration with the Municipal Sports Foundation of the Valencia City Council, which aims to promote physical and sports activity among minors. The FDM also promotes values and sportsmanship with initiatives such as ‘Value your fair play’, present since 2014.
