Collecting is a disease for some. And the figure that reached a couple of shoes worn by Michael Jordan it is truly record-breaking. On the other hand, these are not just any shoes, but the first Nike shoes worn by Michael Jordan for the regular season.
Well these were sold at Sotheby’s auction in Las Vegas for $ 1.472 million, beating the record for this type of object, as Tgcom24 tells us. The shoes were worn in Jordan’s fifth NBA game in his freshman season in 1984, which is the same year Nike and Jordan created the front line. If you are wondering who is the “madman” who managed to win them, we tell you right away: it is the collector Nick Fiorella.
Michael Jeffrey Jordan, also known by his initials MJ is a former American basketball player and former baseball player, as well as major shareholder and president of the Charlotte Hornets basketball team.
Nicknamed the Air Jordan and His Airness for its athletic and technical qualities, was elected in 1999 “the greatest North American athlete of the twentieth century” by the sports television channel ESPN. The fame acquired on the field made him a sports icon, to the point of pushing Nike to dedicate a line of basketball shoes to him called Air Jordan, introduced in 1984.
As reported by Wikipedia.it, Jordan played for three years at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he led the team to victory in the NCAA national championship in 1982. He was then chosen third in the 1984 NBA Draft by the Chicago Bulls and became in short time one of the stars of the league, helping to spread the NBA worldwide in the 80s and 90s.
In 1991 he won his first NBA title with the Bulls, and then repeated with two more hits in 1992 and 1993, winning a three-peat, after which he retired to pursue a career in baseball. He returned to the Bulls in 1995 and led them to another three-peat victory (1996, 1997 and 1998). He retired a second time in 1999, then returned as a member of the Washington Wizards from 2001 to 2003, before retiring for good.
