Title holder Matthias Casse, world number 2 in his category, will fight for bronze in -81 kg at the Grand Slam judo tournament in Paris on Sunday for his comeback in competition after his bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics.
Matthias Casse, exempted from the first round, first beat the Canadian François Gauthier-Drapeau, 23, unranked before losing in the quarter-finals against the Japanese Takeshi Sasaki (ncl).
In the repechage, the 24-year-old world champion and European runner-up defeated the German Tim Gramkow (IJF 105) and will try to get 3rd place on Sunday afternoon against the Japanese Sotaro Fujiwara, 31st in the world , or his fifth podium in a Grand Slam event.
