We arrive at dojo de Montmirail where we are received by the « sensei » translate “Master, teacher” Jean-Pierre Vinciati as well as by the club president, Benjamin Lepage.

The dojo has two other sensei, Mohammed El Dressi and Mohammed Benahmed.

The club is honored by many members aged from 4 to 68 years old.

All compete on the Montmiraillais tatami. The tatami, this surface bordered in red with a blue interior is the ground for learning, the first of which are done without contact.

These are the ones that punctuate the life of each judoka and that we learn from the first time we walk on the tatami barefoot, that goes without saying.

The tatami, school of wisdom

We stand on the edge of the tatami and say hello. Here begins judo which is a learning of values: politeness is respect for others, courage is doing what is right, sincerity is expressing oneself without disguising one’s thoughts, honor is ‘is to be faithful to the word given, modesty is to speak of oneself without pride, respect because without respect no confidence can be born, self-control is knowing how to be silent when anger rises and finally l friendship is the purest of human feelings.

All this will accompany a whole on the tatami or in everyday life.

Montmirail foments champions

The Montmirail dojo is also the school of competition and merit. “At the Olympic Games, France went to Japan to win gold medals in front of Japanese judokas. We are proud of it ”, explains sensei Mohammed Benahmed.

But champions are also created in Montmirail. We can notably mention Aurore Plu, 20 years old winner of regional and national championships. It cumulates a championship of Marne and Champagne Ardennes. We can also recall his good performance with a third semi-final in the French Junior Championships.

A well-deserved feat for this enthusiast who can be found on the tatami alongside Sensei Vinciati to accompany the little ones.

But if we have to talk about the Montmiraillais champions, it is advisable to highlight the formidable performance of the young Ennio Dietz who at 16 has not finished shining.

Twice champion of Champagne and once champion of Marne, the young man does not lack talent and everyone agrees to recognize them.

A healthy club

Despite a forced shutdown during this pandemic, the judo club has resumed its activities and lives to the rhythm of the sport. The judokas were able to meet and train. Some health rules are obviously required and the health pass is mandatory to practice your favorite sport.

“Our club is doing well”, explains President Benjamin Lepage, “Because we are a club where everyone knows each other well. Between departures and arrivals we always have such an energetic club. Of course, the youth who are moving towards university or professional studies leaves the city, but leaves room for newcomers who come to replace them. So the club continues on its way. “

“Friendship above all”

At the question “Where does success come from”, President Lepage responds bluntly by citing one of the qualities of judoka: “It comes from the friendship we have for each other. The club is friendly and united. We are a really good team. “
