Recent finalist in Moscow, Marin Cilic confirmed that he was in clear regain of form by winning the Open of Saint Petersburg (Russia) this Sunday. The Croatian won a rather disjointed final against the American Taylor Fritz (7-6 [3], 4-6, 6-4) where in the end there are no less than ten breaks. But Cilic was able to tighten the game when needed, especially in the tie-break of the first set.
Fritz might have thought he had done the hardest part by coming back up, but it would have taken a little more consistency on the serve in the final round to hold out until the end. Instead, he conceded a second break in the set on a fifth double fault. Behind, Cilic was quick to conclude and win his second title of the season after Stuttgart and reach the bar of 20 career titles.
