This season was dreamed of for Maria Camila Osorio, the tennis player who has raised the name of Colombia before the world. At just 19 years old, in 2021 she established herself as the best female racket in Latin America, won her first WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) title and finished runner-up in another, in Tenerife (Spain), on October 24.

Well, after his return to the country, the cucuteña, which also occupies box number 53 on the planet, took stock of what this campaign was and its preparation for 2022.

Regarding the outstanding results she obtained, such as defeating the sixth best tennis player in the world, Elina Svitolina, in Tenerife, she affirmed that it is because she has been betting on a more offensive game: I started to play a little more, to be more aggressive, that helps me on the court. God willing that I also get the titles and the dream of the Grand Slam (…). I no longer focus on the others, now I focus on mine and I am aware of what I can generate. That game can hurt in the future to play with the best.

Despite the bittersweet of not having beaten Ann Li in the final of her last WTF tournament, she commented that she is happy, since she has learned to know her virtues in order to improve them, the rest, time will tell.

“I have improved in my shots, my serve is working for me and I have learned to read the games, to know myself more, to know the rivals and how to behave on the court.”

Osorio told the newspaper El Heraldo that the year had just begun, she did not imagine that she would have such a high performance, which is why she was even summoned to the Tokyo Olympics. “How did I do it? I am excited, motivated for what is coming, because I have bigger dreams and goals to fulfill. Let’s hope that the results continue to give me the way they did this year ”.

Among his dreams, he made it clear, the search for an Olympic medal for the country stands out, a fact that, why not? It could be in three years. “When I played the Olympics it was incredible, I was excited, I was very happy. I saw that very far away, but when they told me I was going in, it was a great moment. I hope to prepare well to go to Paris in four years and be able to win a medal, “he told the Colombian Caribbean.

WHAT WILL COME IN 2022

For those who wonder if Osorio will continue competing for the remaining two months, he explained that the idea was to play another two tournaments in Europe, but due to a muscle discomfort he suffers, it was not possible. “This year is over for me and when I compete now I am already thinking about the preseason and preparing for Australia for next year. I hope to have a great 2022 and well, to meet those goals I must be ready”, He explained once the tournament ended in Tenerife.

As for next year, as well as returning to his homeland, he pointed out: “Already being at home with the family, he feels much better. It’s nice to be home. I haven’t squared anything on the schedule for next season, we have not defined anything on the calendar yet ”.
