Marc Pinsach he has decided that enough is enough. That being versatile is fine, but at 32, splitting the season with skiing in the winter and racing in the summer is starting to get too cumbersome. He has prioritized, putting an end to what he considers “a fascinating journey” that has led him to compete internationally between 2006 and today among the elite of downhill skiing. A sport he will not give up, because will work in technical centers tot donant un cop de mà a les federacions catalana i espanyola. But to which he will not devote so many hours, so much effort. The goal, from now on, is another. On the one hand, rest more than you did. On the other hand, to teach the youngest, to those who rise strongly. And above all, dedicate one hundred percent to running.

“I had been there for many years and I didn’t want to continue with the same. There are more and more ski races. I first had the option to disconnect a bit and then try to be competitive starting in February, but I saw that it was incompatible afterwards if I wanted to race at a good level in the summer. To do it at 50 percent is not to do it completely well “, he explains. A second factor is added. “Downhill skiing will be Olympic in 2026 and that motivated me, but five years are left and that’s a long time, especially for me, who already have 32. I would have to survive financially all this time to try to be “And then, despite betting everything, I might not have gotten there.” Therefore, last March’s test at Madonna di Campiglio, the last of the World Cup, was the last of his extensive curriculum. The same that led him to take his head off for renowned tests such as the Pierre Mental, Mezzalama or the Patrouille des Glaciers. The 2013 state championship in Boí-Taüll is added, succeeding a benchmark such as Kilian Jornet.

He leaves the competition high, but by no means hangs his skis. “I like it very much. The atmosphere, the sport, everything ». He will live it now “from another perspective.” It will be, therefore, a kind of point and apart. “My whole life has revolved around that. The way I am, how I have built myself as a person. These are things that drink from skiing. A stage is over, but I will neither die nor leave this world, but I change my point of view. I will stop fighting for a personal goal and I will do it for a collective one. I will feel the vibration, the anxiety, the emotion. I imagine that it will be, of course, with a different intensity.

More time to run

Marc Pinsach had been wondering for a long time. “What if one year I could properly prepare for the trail season? I always gave more importance to skiing and went against foot. Now is the time to respond with facts. “A less busy year awaits me. Instead of doing about thirty races, I will do ten or twelve. And the personal goal? He explains it. “I want to have time to rest or not to spend energy competing with skiing. At the same time, make a good base of workouts for the running season. I intend to start being a little fit from March, especially to be very competitive in July and August. Tests, a few on the agenda but above all there is one in mind. With just over fifty miles at most so far, the CCC motivates him. The distance is doubled. “I will start running 20 and 30 kilometers, also with a marathon. To end with the CCC, which is one hundred. I still have good fitness to be fast. I have spark, engine. And at the same time I add the experience and endurance, physical and mental, which are necessary ingredients to face this kind of challenges “.

The ideas are clear to the man from Cassano, who has been in love with the mountains since he was a child, when he accompanied his parents there. To taste it, to dedicate yourself to it, with a stay at the Catalan Mountain Skiing Technology Center in the middle. From now until now, history is written on its own. In the elite, competing head-to-head with the best. For now, the snow will be in the background. Point and end to a “fascinating” journey and now, to focus on another stage.
