Maple Leafs renews contract with defender Rile for eight years

The Maple Leafs of Toronto, Canada, the National Hockey League, have extended their contract with defender Morgan Rile for eight years, the club said on its website on Friday.

Maple Leafs reports that under the terms of the contract, the hockey player will receive an average of $ 7.5 million (€ 6.5 million) annually.

Riley, 27, played 55 games in the Maple Leafs season in the 2020/2021 season and scored 35 assists (five goals and 30 assists).

In 580 NHL career regular season games, Riley earned 309 points (59 + 250) in the form of Maple Leafs, but added 19 points (4 + 15) in 32 Stanley Cup games.

Rillie is currently the longest-running hockey player in the form of Maple Leafs, serving as captain’s assistant since 2016.

In the 2019/2020 season, he became the second defender in the history of Maple Leafs, joining the Swedish Berry Salming, who started his career with seven 20 consecutive pass seasons.

In the Maple Leafs list of all-time defensive defenders, Riley ranks tenth in goals scored (59), fifth in assists (250), sixth in points (309) and ninth in past games (580).

In the international arena, Rijs has represented Canada several times and won a gold medal at the 2016 World Championships.

The Toronto team selected Rile in the first round of the 2012 NHL Draft with a total of five, and the defender has spent his entire NHL career at Maple Leafs.
