Man City’s dominance in Carabao Cup ends

London

Manchester City lost to West Ham United in the fourth round of the English League Cup. As a result, the domination of Citizens in this competition is over.

City as the defending champions face West Ham at the London Olympic stadium, Thursday (10/28/2021) early morning WIB. Losing some of its main players, City did appear dominant but had difficulty creating opportunities.

West Ham too because they also serve the game attacking City. Until 90 minutes of normal time was up, the match remained 0-0 and had to continue in a penalty shootout.

City finally lost with a score of 3-5 after Phil Foden’s first kicker went wide. West Ham was partying to celebrate his escape while City had to bite their fingers.

How not because since being handled by Pep Guardiola in 2016/2017, City have always qualified for the semifinals and even four of them led to the title in 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021.

The only failure was when Guardiola’s City lost to Manchester United in the 2017 Carabao Cup semi-finals or almost five years!

If calculated, then City have not lost in the English League Cup for 1,827 days!

“Overall, it’s been an incredible streak and we’ve done something extraordinary last year. Today we played well, created a lot of chances but couldn’t take them,” said Guardiola. BBC Sport.

“Of course (I always thought this streak would end), nothing lasts forever. We tried hard to win this tournament, four years in a row is fantastic. So, we will try again next year,” he continued.
