Luca Banchi is the new coach of Pesaro

“The Carpegna Ham Basket Pesaro announces that it has reached an agreement with Luca Banchi, coach born in 1965. Banchi, born in Grosseto, began his career as a coach at the helm of the youth teams of his hometown team before moving to Vigna di Valle and Florence as deputy. From 1987 to 1999 he coached the junior training of Basketball Livorno with which he won three titles. With the Tuscan team he also covers the role of Head Coach in Serie A2. 1999 is the year of his debut in Serie A1 as head coach of Pallacanestro Trieste, then in 2001, again in the top flight, he is on the Livorno bench. Later he trains in Serie A2 in Trapani and Jesi. In 2001 he also leads the Under 20 National Team and the experimental selection with which he won the bronze medal at the Mediterranean Games in Tunis.

From 2006 to 2012 he was at Mens Sana Siena as assistant manager of Simone Pianigiani, which he took over in 2012/2013. In total, in his experience in Siena he won seven league titles, five Super Cups and five Italian Cups. Between 2009 and 2010 he was assistant coach of the national team. On 1 July 2013 he arrives at Olimpia Milano: this is the 26th Scudetto for the red and white club. The Tuscan coach signs a record since no one before him in his first year on the Milanese bench has managed to take home the title of champion of Italy. He remains at the helm of the red and white until the end of June 2015.

At the end of May 2017 he was announced as the new coach of Auxilium Pallacanestro Torino with whom at the end of the first round he won access to the Final Eight of the Italian Cup. In mid-January 2018 he leaves the Piedmontese club. At the beginning of March he was chosen by Brose Bamberg: he stayed in Germany until the end of the season, hitting the playoff semifinal in the Bundesliga. For 2018/2019 a new experience awaits him, this time in Greece as head coach of AEK Athens with whom he reaches the quarter-finals in the Champions League, in the semi-finals in the national championship and also wins the Intercontinental Cup. The following season in Russia he leads the Lokomotiv Kuban coaching staff until mid-December 2019. He currently holds the position of Technical Commissioner of the Latvian national team.

Banchi will lead the Carpegna Prosciutto Basket Pesaro starting from the training scheduled this afternoon ”.
