It is impossible to review the sporting events -in the last decade-, and the administrative work of Inder in Santiago de Cuba, without mentioning the example and verve provided by Lázaro Expósito Canto.
Maintaining the indomitable province as the second power in muscle activity in the country is not an easy task, and as a man of the people, Expósito Canto was at all times close to the athletes, coaches and Glories of Santiago.
Beloved in every corner of this southeastern territory, without Lazaro’s guidance, it would have been very difficult to recover all the infrastructure damaged by the devastating passage of Hurricane Sandy.
“It was his way of managing each process that helped us get ahead, when we had more than 100 destroyed facilities and with his drive we not only repaired them, but also gave them a touch of superior quality than they had previously,” acknowledged the director of the province of Sports, Mc.S. Alina Sánchez Revilla.
Today the Santiago athletic movement appreciates the constant concern of a man who always bet on the development of physical activity. Impossible to overlook the bio-healthy gyms installed in dissimilar neighborhoods and the sports areas rescued, and created, thanks to the Santiago Arde project.
“Many of the resources we have today were obtained during the management of our beloved Party Secretary, who not only focused on political and administrative guidance, but was side by side with us in every battle waged to improve. a facility, a school or to support the preparation of athletes for a national event, ”Alina recalled.
The recovery of iconic venues of vital importance for the practice of sport, such as the Hiroshima Judo Academy, the Chess Academy, the Armando Mestre Athenaeum, the revitalization of a part of the Alejandro Urgellés multipurpose room, the installation of three gyms with State-of-the-art equipment, among others, are part of the footprint that Exposito leaves in untamed sports.
His was the idea of entrusting Retomed with the manufacture of the equipment modules that make up the biosaludable gyms to reach more communities and avoid the expenses derived from importing them from China.
“The constant maintenance work in the ‘Guillermón Moncada’, so that the Wasps have a headquarters in style, was always a source of attention for him. So much so that we won the venue for the last All-Star Game, in which all the guests were impressed with the quality of our stadium.
“And what about ‘Antonio Maceo’, where although it is true that Fifa donated the synthetic handle to us, everything done in the administrative building and the surrounding areas, corresponding to the sports team, ran on our account, and there it was also the hand, the guide, the accurate criticism and the culture of detail characteristic of the Secretary, ”said Sánchez Revilla.
And he added: “Lazaro helped us achieve things that we long longed for, such as cold rooms for preserving food in our schools. There was no tournament in which the province was the venue that did not have their attention, so that everything went in the best way and ‘Santiago’ showed his hospitality ”.
That is why each medal won by athletes from Santiago of any category, whether in national or foreign events, is part of the immense legacy that Exposito leaves in the sport of the so-called “hot land”.
Today, all of Santiago de Cuba pays the deserved tribute to an exceptional man, who has given his invaluable contribution so that this piece of Cuba does not stop being champions.
