Lakshya Sen of India enters third round of French Open Badminton


India’s Lakshya Sen qualified for the third round of the men’s singles badminton event of the French Open Badminton with a comfortable victory over Singaporean Loh Kean Yew here on Thursday.

Sen won his second round match 21-17 21-13 in 40 minutes.

But that was the curtain for the mixed doubles duo of Ashwini Ponnappa and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy when they lost the round of 16.

The Indians lost to Indonesian Praveen Jordan and Melati Daeva Oktavianti 21-15, 17-21, 19-21.

The Indian duo dominated the first game, but their Indonesian opponents came back in force to claim the next two games and the game in their favor.

In another men’s singles match, Sameer Verma retired with injury against Indonesian Shesar Hiren Rhustavito at the end of the second game when the score was 16-21 21-12.
