La’el Collins will play in another position on the offensive line

Following the 35-29 victory over the Patriots, right offensive tackle La’el Collins’s suspension period ended. To get him back on the roster, the Cowboys made a move with fullback Nick Ralston to put him back on the 53 roster. Ralston is now on the practice squad while Collins is fully available to assist with the offensive line. .

Now, a lot has happened in the last few weeks that Collins has been out. Thanks to the suspension for violating substance abuse policies, the team was left without its starting right tackle after the game against Tampa Bay. So since the meeting for week 2 against the Chargers and everyone else, the person in charge of supplying him has been Terence Steele.

Once the decision was discussed against the Chargers, many fans were against it. Since Steele did not leave very fond memories in his rookie campaign in 2020. For last season, the player had to supply Collins throughout the season thanks to surgery on his hip. He started in a total of 14 games, leaving irregular presentations. Where Zack Martin himself had to cover him twice thanks to his poor performance.

Things have certainly turned in his favor for this year, leaving pleasant impressions in the position and during La’el’s absence. Therefore, he is going to stay with the position, at least in the duel against the Vikings.

This was stated by head coach Mike McCarthy at a press conference, who clarified that the important thing is that Collins has the rhythm of the game again.

“You have to recognize how well Terence is playing,” McCarthy said. “We all recognize it. The continuity of the offensive line is something that you always strive to maintain throughout the year. The complexities of what’s going on up front, the replays that they’ve been playing together is crucial, so we want to continue to maintain that. But also, I think this gives us the most competition and depth that I have had in all my time here when it comes to the offensive line. “

Now the big dilemma facing coach McCarthy has been the problem that Connor Williams represents at the left guard position. Despite being on a contract year, his performance has been spotty, with a slew of field penalties costing the Cowboys a ton of yards. Only in the game against the Patriots did he have crucial accounts, including holding shares and one for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Williams has undoubtedly become the weakest link on the offensive line alongside center Tyler Biadasz. However, if Dallas finally decides to use Collins in Week 8, it will be at left guard. Work that La’el already knows perfectly thanks to his first two years as a professional with the Cowboys. That was his preferred position until he moved to right tackle to fill in for Doug Free’s retirement in March 2017.

In fact, it is already known that during the early stages of Wednesday’s practice, Collins was working both as a guard on both sides and as a tackle on the right. As for the first position, he was working a lot more on the left side. For Coach McCarthy, this is extremely important. Since it gives the team options when they have to face greater challenges.

“It’s part of it,” commented the coach. “I think flexibility in position is always important, so we’ll see how it goes. I am looking forward to seeing him back on the field of play ”.

The Cowboys will have these days to keep practicing and the coaching staff will come to a solution regarding Collins by Sunday night. He is strongly believed to play left guard in place of Williams. However, it could even be the swing tackle and be attentive to any eventuality. A resolution will be reached on this in the next few days.

The Cowboys know they must maintain their positive streak if they are to stay away from their rivals in the NFC East. And of course, to become one of the best teams in the National Conference.
