Zulte Waregem had a tough customer at 1B club RWDM, Vossen saved Essevee with a penalty in injury time. After a disastrous start, KVO held a target practice against CS Onhaye, a third amateur club. Finally, Standard narrowly beat Mouscron. The first win for the Rouches under Luka Elsner.

KV Mechelen – Union: 2-1

Fierce battle Behind the Barracks. KV Mechelen seemed to have almost won the game a little past the hour with a 2-0 score. Geoffry Hairemans was involved in both Mechelen goals. Early in the game he got the ball as a gift from Union goalkeeper Pirard and then he offered Shved the opening goal. The 2-0 was beautifully made. Hairemans was sent deep by Druijf, outplayed his opponent and scored flawlessly. Are you ready to book for Union? Not yet. Burgess’ header hit the post, Vanzeir hit the target acrobatic. In the end, the same Vanzeir pushed the connecting goal against the nets on Undav’s instructions. It was still exciting, but KV eventually took the win. (ABD)

Moeskroen – Standard: 0-1

Elsner has had his first success as coach of Standard. A win by a small margin against Mouscron, which has not yet won a match with stakes this season, gives the Rouches a place in the eighth finals. That’s all, because the performance was not convincing. At the end of the match it was even all hands on deck to avoid overtime.

Klauss finally scored again. That was ago from 15 August at Beerschot. The Standard striker used a penalty early in the match for a foul by Simba on Tapsoba. He could have made a second halfway through the first half, if he hadn’t kicked half the ball.

Tapsoba was not only at the basis of the 0-1 at halftime. The best moves came from him and an excellent intervention from Gillekens was needed to prevent the Burkinese from doubling the lead of the Rouches. As good Tapsoba was, so weak Rafia. The Tunisian was unsuccessful and was replaced by Cimirot halfway through the second half. Just before that it was close to Mouscron balancing the beach. Angiulli’s crossed header from the corner went just wide. There were indeed a few more chances for the ‘Hurlus’, but the attempts missed the right direction or Henkinet was in the way. (AR)

Mouscron: Gillekens • Myny, Angiulli, Taravel (46 ‘Lepoint), Mohamed, Bocat • Vroman ((76’ Atteri), Simba, Diandy (37 ‘Dekuyper) • Chevalier, Giunta (46’ Bourdouxhe).
