The franchises have spent the last hours downsizing to attack the season with a maximum of 15 players under contract, and two in « two-way contract », and in Memphis, it’s Kris Dunn who pays the price. It comes as a surprise since the former Wolves and Bulls point guard was set to earn $ 5 million this season, and he seemed an ideal understudy for Ja Morant with his defensive profile.
The concern is that he has only played four games since January 2020, and that he has not recovered from his successive knee and ankle injuries. Returning to the field in April for the Hawks, he appeared out of form, unable even to weigh in defense, and at only 27 years old, he is now without a club.
A quick fall to hell for Kris Dunn, first transferred to the Celtics in the exchange involving the Kings, before eventually being ceded to the Grizzlies for Juancho Hernangomez.
Note also that the Grizzlies have recovered a lot of leaders this summer, and ultimately none will wear the jersey. They are Eric Bledsoe, Pat Beverley, Rajon Rondo, Carsen Edwards and therefore Kris Dunn.
Two-way contract : Designed to create a new bridge between the NBA and the G-League, this type of contract allows each team to enlist the services of one or two additional players, to make them evolve mainly in their development league franchise affiliate but also up to 45 days in the NBA. This year that limit is turned into 50 appearances on the scoresheet.
