Kontaveit won the third tournament in two months and has high hopes for the Champions Tournament

Anett Kontaveitová after advancing to the final in Eastbourne in June, she lost five matches in a row. In mid-August, however, she hired a new coach and, under the leadership of Russian Dmitry Tursunov, she got into life form almost immediately.

Since August 24, she has played 23 matches, won 21 of them and only once at least a hundred. She won three of the six tournaments and resigned once.

In just two months, she added three more cups for the champion to the trophy from Hertogenbosch 2017: from Cleveland, Ostrava and Moscow.

She lost a single hundred in the Russian capital this week. After two hundred wins over Kateřina Siniaková, Andrea Petkovicová, Garbiñe Muguruzaová and Markéta Vondroušová, she turned a very unfavorable development in today’s final against Ekaterina Alexandrovová.

Kontaveitová already lost 4-6 and 0-4 and the state when she was served was 30-30. Until then, she did not notice a single break. Nevertheless, she managed to reverse the development by gaining six gamma in a row and force a third set. Although she lost 4-5 in it after losing service and found herself two balls away from defeat in servicing her opponent, she stopped another critical moment and finally, after less than two and a half hours of fighting, she won 4-6 6-4 7-5.

Thanks to her triumph, the 25-year-old Estonian secured a shift to 14th place in the world rankings, thus leveling her maximum, and at the same time kept the hope of premiering participation in the Champions Tournament. He will directly qualify for it if he wins another WTA 250 indoor tournament next week in Cluj, Romania, where he will play the role of second. In the first round, Serbian qualifier Alexandra Kruničová awaits her.

Alexandrov, 26, played the finals for the third time in her career and for the first time this season. He won the only title last year in Shenzhen, China.

The Czech tennis player Kateřina Siniaková and Latvian Jelena Ostapenková won the doubles in Moscow on Saturday.
