Judo and duathlon make November a high season in the city

The sport has become in the last years in the main tourist attraction of Avilés out of season. The organization of national and international tests has achieved the desire of the sector to seasonally adjust visits and extend the summer season ahead or behind.

This year, the confluence of up to three factors has designed another ‘big week’ after the traditional one in August in San Agustín. November has been marked in red for months by those responsible for the hotels in Avilés and the region, because the demand is such that there is not enough supply and the reservations are spread throughout the central area of ​​Asturias.

The ‘culprits’, holiday bridge apart, are two sports competitions that have become an engine for the local economy in recent years: the International Judo Tournament and the Duathlon, which this year has managed to bring Avilés a World Cup again that will have an impact on the entire planet.

This weekend judo opens fire. Around 1,200 judocas belonging to some two hundred clubs meet in Avilés, within the framework of a safe competition thanks to a complete security protocol against covid, which includes testing all judocas before and during the tournament. participants, belonging to Spanish, American, Portuguese, French and Georgian clubs.

Starting on the Tuesday that the holiday bridge ends, it will be the turn of the Duathlon World Cup. The competition, which will be held on November 6 and 7, will have the participation of 1,100 athletes, a figure that is 10% higher than originally planned. They will come from 36 countries, in addition to Spain.

England, with more than three hundred duathletes, and the United States and Mexico, with nearly one hundred participants, lead, together with Spain, a list of countries with the most registered in the test.
