José “Grillito” Vargas announced his retirement from the senior basketball team


José “Grillito” Vargas will no longer be for the national basketball team. The player resigned from the absolute Vinotinto of the discipline.

The player’s resignation was known on October 28 around noon. The news was spread by himself through a text posted on his Twitter account.

The now former Vinotinto player has 39 years of age, and multiple achievements with the national team.

Although he does not explain the reasons for his resignation, the decision occurs after not being among those called up and not among those eligible for the qualifying window towards the 2023 World Cup.

The national team, Fernando Duró, also left out another great national basketball figure like Luis Bethelmy.

In a brief “letter” the oldest of the Vargas recalled his arrival at the national team at just 16 years of age. With the passage of time, he took over jersey 10, a number reserved for the most creative and skilled.

“Grillito” was key in obtaining the 2014 South American at the Ciudad La Asunción gym in Margarita and in 2016, held at the Poliedro de Caracas.

He was part of the generation that managed to reach the top of the podium in 2015 in Mexico. This generation was known as the “Heroes of Mexico.”

In addition, he attended the 2016 Rio Olympics and the 2019 China World Cup.

During his career he served as a guard and forward for the national team, a position where he always stood out.
