Jonathan Satisfied Revenge Against Antonsen at Thomas Cup

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —

Jonatan Christie satisfied revenge for Anders Antonsen in the semifinals Thomas Cup, Saturday (16/10) evening WIB.

Jonathan managed to beat Antonsen with a score of 25-23, 15-21, 21-16 which gave Indonesia a 2-1 lead over Denmark in the Thomas Cup semifinals.

Jonatan said he was satisfied to beat Antonsen in the semifinals of the Thomas Cup because this victory was also revenge for his defeat in Jakarta. Jonathan has previously lost to Antonsen twice in the 2019 and 2020 Indonesia Masters.

“Antonsen once beat me in Jakarta, which is my hometown. Now it’s my turn to beat Antonsen at his birthplace,” said Jonatan after the match in a PBSI release.

Jonathan also admitted that he was happy to have won the match and brought Indonesia 2-1 ahead of Denmark.

“I am happy to be able to contribute points. I am happy with today’s performance. We know Antonsen is a good player and his performance has improved after the last Tokyo Olympics,” said Jonatan.

However, Jonathan saw Antonsen appear tense against him, so that his flagship shots did not come out in the game.

“Only, I saw that he was also tense. The punches that were his mainstay did not even come out because I kept watch. I could control the match,” said Jonatan.

Jonathan also realized that before the match Denmark was more favored than Indonesia.

“We knew before the match started, Denmark was favored to win because it had strong singles players. However, we also have strong doubles. So if we can beat one of their single players, we have a chance to win,” said Jonathan .

“My principle in competing earlier, I just don’t want to lose,” Jonatan added.
