Instagram opens the sharing of Links in Stories to all users, or almost

Instagram is expanding the ability to add links in stories to all accounts to allow anyone to “share important things with friends and family.”

“Over the years, companies, creators and change makers have demonstrated how sharing resources and information can inspire their communities.” Instagram explained. “From organizing and educating about equity, social justice and mental well-being to introducing new products to customers, sharing links is beneficial in many ways, so now we’re making it possible for everyone.”

Previously, only verified accounts and unverified accounts with a certain number of followers could add links within Stories. Instagram said it has received a large number of requests from its community to expand this possibility to more users, hence today’s announcement.

“We continue to be inspired by change makers on our platform and by those who want to turn their passion into a life by sharing connections.” continues the Instagram note. “We recently introduced new ways for creators and businesses to reach more fans, engage their community and increase their reach, and we aim to further support them with access to links.”

Adding links to your Instagram stories is simple: just use the ‘Link’ sticker to add the link to a web page within your own Instagram story. Those who see the story can touch this sticker to connect directly to the linked page.

To add the Link sticker in an Instagram Story:
– Capture or upload content to your story
– Select the ‘Stickers’ tool from the top navigation bar
– Tap the “Link” sticker then paste the desired link and tap “Done”
– Place the sticker wherever you like within your story, as with the other stickers available, and you can tap the sticker to change its color

Instagram said it is working on making it possible for users to customize the sticker to make it clear what those who touch the sticker with the link will see.

Also, to keep the community safe and prevent Stories from becoming a means of sharing spam or malicious links, new accounts and accounts that repeatedly share things like hate speech and misinformation or other content that violates the Guidelines of the community will not have access to the ‘Link’ sticker.
