Jakarta

Indonesia will face Malaysia in the 2021 Sudirman Cup quarter-finals. In addition to the three doubles, PBSI relies on the women’s singles to contribute points for the Red and White team.

PBSI’s Head of Binpres, Rionny Mainaky, is optimistic that Indonesia will be able to overcome the neighboring country’s team because of the strength of the players.

“I’m sure the children can perform optimally with our strengths. In all sectors, we will display our core and strongest strengths. I hope that all players can play optimally like yesterday against Denmark,” Rionny said in a written statement, Friday (1/10). /2021).

According to the former head coach of the Japanese national team, Indonesia’s strength points will lie in the men’s doubles, women’s doubles, mixed doubles and women’s singles sectors.

“We are confident, but we must not overdo it. I have confidence that we can overcome Malaysia,” he said.

If citing the strength of Indonesian players, PBSI has the opportunity to lose Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, who is considered to have experience and a better ranking than the other two players who are still relatively young, namely Putri Kusuma Wardani and Ester Wardoyo.

The world number 21 player also has the opportunity to face Malaysia’s mainstay single, Kisona Selvaduray. Both have a record of beating each other in two meetings. The last time, Gregoria was above the 53rd world ranking player at the 2018 Finnish Open. Meanwhile, another player outside of Kosona, Karuphatevan Letshanaa, has a world ranking far below 776.

For the men’s singles, Rionny said that the strength between Indonesia and Malaysia was balanced. In fact, if you look at the predictions of the players who have been revealed, Malaysia has the opportunity to field Lee Zii Jia, whose performance is currently on the rise following the results of a number of recent tournaments.

Meanwhile, if you look at Lee’s meeting record against Anthony Ginting, Jonatan Christie, and Shesar Hiren Rhustavito, almost all Indonesian players excel.

Anthony has even been recorded as having never lost in three meetings with Lee, while Jonathan has only lost once to Lee in five meetings. Meanwhile, Shesar had beaten each other with Lee. He is only one win away from the five meetings that the two have played.

“For the men’s singles, the strength is crowded. Even so, I hope that all sectors can take points,” said Rionny.

The semifinal match for the Sudirman Cup will be held on Friday (1/10). Indonesia meets Malaysia in the afternoon match at 16.00 local time or at 20.00 WIB.
