It was not being an easy start to the championship for IDK Euskotren, who received BAXI Ferrol at Gasca this Saturday with the need to win after having added only one victory in the first five games. For this reason, the team trained by Azu Muguruza took the appointment very seriously and feasted on passing over the Galician team (89-60), which was only seen intoned during the first ten minutes.

From there, the donostiarras dominated all facets of the game and proof of this are both the defensive and offensive success. Because scoring 89 points is a high figure for those of Ibaeta, but leaving the rival at sixty, a hope that this team has a lot to say in this Endesa Women’s League. This was demonstrated at least in the third quarter, where he was able to make a partial 24-13 that ultimately ended up being decisive. And what is clear is that María España and Mariam Coulibaly cannot lose track of them. At least seen what happened yesterday at home.

The first one played about twenty-four minutes in the direction of the IDK to score a total of 21 points, twelve of them from outside the perimeter. He added a 22 rating and became the star of the game. The fans fired him amid applause. Like the Malian center, who once again proved to be the queen of painting. The offensive rebound dominates the same as the defensive, which scores or distributes assists. It is, without a doubt, the one that makes the difference. His 22 points and 24 valuation say it all.

  • IDK Euskotren:
    Cornelius (11), Madden (11), Spain (21), Coulibaly (22), Harden (13) -initial quintet- Esnal, Soriano, Díaz (7), Cvitkovic (2) and Brown (2). T1: 8/16; T2: 24/41; T3: 11/21; REB: 28 (22 + 6); ATTEND: 22; VAL .: 105.

  • BAXI Ferrol:
    Koenen (12), Ivanovic (4), Grande (14), Allen (13), Swart (6) -the starting five- Villegas, Gari (2), Wadoux (3), Cabrera, Leaupepe (2) and Rodríguez (4 ). T1: 9/10; T2: 18/41; T3: 5/20; REB: 29 (18 + 11); ASSIST: 6; VAL .: 50.

  • Partial:
    19-14, 20-16 (39-30); 24-13 (63-43) and 26-17 (89-60).

  • Referees:
Franquesa, Marqueta and Cristina Adán. Cvitkovic and Grande eliminated.

Although the triumph was collective. Because except for Esnal and Soriano –which Azu didn’t give a single minute despite the wide difference–, they all contributed their grain of sand. In addition to the two already mentioned, Cornelius stood out at the beginning, Madden during the meeting and Harden in the final section.

The most important thing, without a doubt, was the power of the Guipuzcoans from the first action, because thanks to this they were able to get 10-2 when only two and a half minutes had been played. By then, the Spanish recital had already begun. For his part, Lino López, rival coach, placed two defenders on Coulibaly with the aim of stopping the IDK’s inside game, but the play did not end up going well. Not even with the success of Carmen Grande, her most outstanding player. Because although it is true that midway through the first quarter, Ferrol improved its performance behind and caused doubts in the local team, the Galicians never reached their best level, the one that had allowed them to reach Donostia with two wins on their locker. However, the Donostiarras closed the first ten minutes with a five-point lead (19-14) thanks to a basket on Madden’s horn.

On the other hand, the second quarter started with a triple by Wadoux that allowed Ferrol to get closer than ever (19-17), but it was a bluff. Because two free throws from Spain and two consecutive baskets from Madden herself – one from two and the other from a personal shot – restored peace to the IDK bench (24-17). And that Ferrol kept trying until Coulibaly and Spain said enough. In fact, a triple from the latter – which already had twelve points by then – was the one that placed Muguruza’s men twelve up (39-27), worth the redundancy, before Koenen scored three for the final 39-30 to rest.

A devastating third quarter

A good attack is a good defense. Never better said. Because the better the back work worked, the more efficient it was at the top. And if not ask Muguruza, who had to enjoy the great work done by some players who yesterday, during the third quarter, surely offered the best level seen so far this season.

In fact, those ten minutes were decisive. 24-13 of partial for the final 63-43. Checkmate. All went well. And if Ferrol ran out of ideas, it was thanks to the great attitude of the IDK, which despite enjoying advantages of almost thirty points, never lost intensity or rhythm. What’s more, he endured it and even increased. It is also true that by minute 25 the Galicians had Carmen Grande with four fouls.

As it was, the last stage had no emotion at all on the track. But yes in the stands of a Josean Gasca who presented a better image than in front of Estudiantes a fortnight ago. With the exchange of baskets, the final 89-60 was reached, which allows IDK Euskotren to add their second victory of the course. Next week, those from Ibaeta will visit Ensino with the aim of continuing to grow.
