Manchester United could actually get Erling Haaland before moving to Borussia Dortmund. However, Mino Raiola’s agent became the obstacle. Why?
Haaland since his appearance with Red Bull Salzburg in 2019 has indeed been astonishing. At the age that was not even 20 years old at that time, Haaland had extraordinary goal statistics.
He scored 27 goals from 29 matches before finally being recruited by Dortmund in January 2020. Haaland’s prowess is getting worse when he has made 70 goals from 69 games so far or one goal per game!
This is an extraordinary statistic at the age of Haaland who has just turned 21. Naturally, many top European clubs want Haaland, including Manchester United, who have been linked with him since the hot music scene.
Manchester United could actually have gotten Haaland earlier, in 2019, when they approached Salzburg at that time. MU reportedly has made a great offer for Salzburg, far above Dortmund who “only” gave 20 million euros.
Unfortunately, MU was cornered by Dortmund, who was more trusted by Raiola as Haaland’s consultant at that time. Because, according to Raiola, Haaland was better “raised” by Dortmund than directly playing at a club as big as MU.
Thus, Erling Haaland and Dortmund both benefit. Because Haaland can improve his performance, while Dortmund will get big money from the sale later.
“Our offer is not as good as Manchester United at this time. They gave a bigger offer. But consultant (agent) Mino Raiola thinks Erling is better handled by us,” said Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke told Manchester Evening News.
“Making a strong team in Europe for the long term is difficult, if you can’t keep players for 3-4 years. Well, we’re not at that level yet,” he continued.
