The American Phil Mickelson, one of the world’s stars of golf, is opposed to limiting the length of clubs in certain tournaments, a new rule decided according to him without consultation with the players.

“It is very disappointing to find out in the press that the PGA Tour has adopted this measure,” he wrote on Twitter. I don’t know of any player who had a say or was consulted on this. But I know that many wonder if there is not a better solution ”.

The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews (R&A) and the American Golf Federation announced on Tuesday that club length may be limited in some tournaments, a measure intended to reduce the length of the drive (the first stroke).

A club – with the exception of putters – will no longer be able to exceed 46 inches, or 117 cm, while the winner of the US Open in 2020, Bryson DeChambeau, renowned for the power of his first strokes, uses a club of 48 inches long (122 cm).

Phil Mickelson, who won the US PGA this year using a club of roughly the same size, had previously called the limitation project, presented in February, “pathetic,” in a tweet in August.
