Paris

Shesar Hiren Rhustavito managed to advance to the quarterfinals of the French Open 2021. The 27-year-old badminton player won over Sameer Verma (India) in the round of 16 with a score of 16-21, 21-12, 0-0 (retired).

Playing on court 3 Stade Pierre de Coubertin, Thursday (28/10), Vito trailed 1-3 first, but managed to equalize to 3-3. The tight score lasted until 7-7, but Vito managed to close the interval with an 11-9 advantage.

After the interval, Verma rose and was able to equalize the points to 12-12. The points romp continued to 15-15, but Verma was able to get away after that. The Indian athlete won six additional points and locked the first set with a score of 21-16.

In the second set, Vito played more loosely. After being 5-8 behind, he managed to get ahead by scoring nine consecutive points, changing the score to 14-8.

From there, Vito’s point acquisition could not be chased by Verma. Vito gave only 4 extra points to Verma, and closed the second set with a score of 21-12.

Before the third set started, Verma decided to withdraw because he was unable to continue the match. Thus, Vito has the right to advance to the quarterfinals. He will meet the winner between Kento Momota (Japan) vs. Rasmus Gemke (Denmark).
