First win for the coach in Oldenburg

After the 79:77 (33:37) success of the Hamburg Towers in the basketball league at EWE Baskets Oldenburg, coach Pedro Calles congratulated his team on the “great effort”. The Spaniard had another reason to be happy about his third win in a row: “In addition, it was a very special one for me, because after four years in the league I was able to win for the first time here in a special hall with a special atmosphere. ”

The fact that the Calles premiere succeeded in front of 5000 spectators was due, on the one hand, to another good defense, but also to the accuracy of hits by Jaylon Brown, Justus Hollatz and Caleb Homesley in the final quarter. In the last few minutes, the Towers had been able to convert a previously clear deficit into an interim 75:68 lead. Brown in particular stood out, scoring 19 of his 26 points after the break.

The best thrower in the Towers saw the reason for the success, however, in the defensive performance. “We defended very well as a team and prevented them from scoring. We did what we set out to do.” The Towers in Badalona (Spain) will have their second game in the Eurocup on Tuesday.
