‘Feyenoord can’t possibly say ‘yes’ to new stadium’

The big question at Feyenoord is still whether there will be a definitive green light for the construction of a new stadium. The club management of the Rotterdammers must make a decision about Feyenoord City’s plans before the end of the year. Supporters and the Municipality of Rotterdam are anxiously waiting for clarity.

According to RTV Rijnmond it seems unlikely that Feyenoord can agree given the construction of Feyenoord City. The increased construction costs are mentioned as a major stumbling block for the new construction plans. Steel prices, wood and concrete currently have a high price, which means that an agreement with BAM/Besix cannot be reached.

Robert Simons of Liveable Rotterdam was in conversation with the after announcing the departure of Mark Koevermans yesterday General Newspaper already critical. He wondered if the club management is telling the whole story. ”Is this also related to the fact that the financing of the new stadium may not be forthcoming? I hear there is a 100 million deficit for the new stadium.”

Chairman of the Supervisory Board Toon van Bodegom said last week that there will be more clarity soon. The press can expect an invitation shortly. “We will get back to you on that soon, probably from the same setting,” said the chairman.

Two options
There are currently two options for Feyenoord: the club management will announce that it will pull the plug from the plans and then have to be financially on the blisters for years to come, or will talk to the municipality to look at the possibilities of renewing the decision. and to wait for prices in the construction world to return to normal levels. Then extra money has to be released and that can sometimes become a problem. The Municipality of Rotterdam has previously indicated that it will invest ‘not a cent extra’ in the new construction plans.
