Federbasket 100 years: 10 things to know about Italian basketball

On November 2, 2021, the establishment of Federbasket is celebrated and not, as many mistakenly believe, the birth of basketball in Italy. The advent of this sport in our country, in fact, dates back to 1907 when Ida Nomi (inserted in the women’s technical commission of the Federgymnastics) translated the rules of James Naismith and introduced the game, which was called «Ball in the basket». An organic activity took place starting from 1919 (the first meeting of which we know was played in the gardens of the Villa Reale in Monza). In 1920, on the initiative of Manlio Pastorini, Federgymnastics admitted the new sport among its disciplines and had the first national championship, won by Forza and Costanza Brescia. On the occasion of the centenary, we propose 10 ideas to remember among the many that there would be.
