FC Eindhoven beats Excelsior in a match that was briefly shut down

The football match that FC Eindhoven played against Excelsior was stopped for a short time on Saturday evening after chants. Beer would also have been thrown.

The match was played at Excelsior in Rotterdam. In the 73rd minute, referee Martijn Vos sent both teams to the changing rooms due to chants. They could be heard in particular behind the goal of the Eindhoven keeper Nigel Bertrams. It was 3-3 at the time.

Victory
With about fifteen minutes to play, the game was halted for a few minutes. When peace had returned, the game could be resumed. In the end, the Eindhoven team managed to take the victory in the last fifteen minutes: it was 3-4, in favor of FC Eindhoven. Collin Seedorf gave the club its sixth win of the season with a goal in the 77th minute.

A match in the first division was also halted on Friday. That was the match between MVV and Roda JC, which was permanently discontinued. The riot police had to intervene and by order of the mayor of Maastricht the game was stopped after 42 minutes. The KNVB condemned the fan violence in the Limburg derby.

Stricter punishment
The football association recently announced additional measures to tackle irregularities in professional football. Since the start of the competition, matches have been temporarily halted on several occasions to calm fans throwing fireworks, beer and other objects.

The association will move to higher penalties, banning away supporters and suspending matches if the number of incidents does not decrease.
