FC Bayern is rehabilitating for Cup disgrace – Torfestival in Berlin

Three days after the 5-0 debacle in the DFB Cup against Gladbach, Bayern were visibly trying to make amends against Union from the start and implemented their plan for the first time after a quarter of an hour. In Leroy Sané’s long-range shot, Union defender Paul Jäckel threw himself into the line of fire and got the ball in the penalty area on the clearly stretched upper arm. Robert Lewandowski took the penalty and turned it into the Munich lead (15th).

His eleventh goal of the season was followed by Bayern’s goal machine number twelve a little later: In a free kick just outside the penalty area, Joshua Kimmich played briefly on Thomas Müller, who stopped the ball for Lewandowski. The Pole then flicked the ball with the inside halfway up to make it 2-0 in the right corner (23rd).

Bayern did not move away from their relentlessly effective attacking football and scored the third goal after 35 minutes. About Kingsley Coman and Müller’s extension with the long leg, the ball landed on the second post at Sané, who easily increased to 3-0 from close range (35th).

Union then put off his passivity a little and was able to shorten before the break: A half-field cross from Genki Haraguchi landed in the penalty area with the advanced Niko Gießelmann, who pulled directly from the half-left position and via Neuer’s hand and the left inner post the hope of the Alte Försterei revived (43rd).

After the break, Coman first restored the old three-goal lead when the Frenchman chased the ball into the right bend on pass from Müller with a final strong individual action (60th). But the renewed answer from the iron was not long in coming: The seconds before substitute Kevin Behrens made Niklas Süle look bad in the running duel and put back from the baseline to the substitute Julian Ryerson, who had no trouble from nine meters and for them Berliner shortened to 2: 4 (65th).

For the end of a turbulent game, Müller finally ensured on the basis of Dayot Upamecano. The Frenchman initiated the goal with a sensational sprint over almost 70 meters and stuck in the penalty area for Müller. He put the ball in front of him briefly and slipped into the net for Bayern to make it 5: 2 (79th).

The tweet about the game:

It caught the eye: Bavaria’s move with Sané

Leroy Sané was not to be found on the wing as usual against Union, but moved again and again to the half positions in the center at Müller’s side when Munich had possession. The Bavarians produced equal numbers in the densely staggered Unioner midfield and at the same time cleared the wing for Alphonso Davies. The Canadian was allowed to plow the left side practically on his own, so he was able to run at great speed to the last line of the hosts and initiate numerous chances for Bayern.

The statistics: 21

An impressive series came to an end for the Eiserne that afternoon: After 21 unbeaten Bundesliga games in a row at the Alte Försterei, Union Berlin suffered a home defeat again.
