Expansion of Ajax training complex one step closer

With the exclusive development right to P2, Ajax can expand on P2 in the future, which is in line with the plans that the club has for the renewal and expansion of the current sports complex and with the plans for the development of De Nieuwe Kern.

Ajax intends to realize a number of extra training fields on the new site where the association plays, as well as a mini stadium in which Ajax Women and Young Ajax will play their home matches in the future. In addition, the site will have a public function, both for fans and residents of De Nieuwe Kern.

Agreement signed
Ajax and the municipality of Amsterdam signed an exclusivity agreement that stipulates that the P2 site, currently still in use as a parking lot, will be reserved exclusively for Ajax for the next five years. In 2026 at the latest, P2 will be issued to Ajax on the basis of perpetual surrendered leasehold.

The club will work out a plan until 2026 that meets the conditions laid down in the agreement. The delivery of P2 by the municipality of Amsterdam is planned for 2025, when the municipality has realized a new parking facility elsewhere in the area.

Edwin van der Sar (general director of Ajax): “With this exclusivity agreement, Ajax is taking a new step. Our goal is to structurally link up with the European top and our youth academy and the progression of youth to the first team plays an important role in this. women’s football too and that development will continue.”

“The extra ground gives us the opportunity to expand the facilities of all our teams. The planned mini stadium that we want to realize at P2 offers a suitable stage for the Ajax Women, Young Ajax, the international matches of our youth and some duels of our first team. In addition, the public function of the site offers us the opportunity in the future to become an even more active part of the Nieuwe Kern.”

‘A big step’
Alderman Marieke van Doorninck (Spatial Development) of Amsterdam: “This agreement is a big step in collaboration with Ouder-Amstel in the development of De Nieuwe Kern. Ajax can make concrete plans for the training complex and the municipality of Amsterdam, together with the other land owners, will be given space for the development of a new urban district with space for homes and facilities.”

“At the same time, we are working on a plan to shape the social role of Ajax specifically for Amsterdam Southeast, in which connection is sought with the Masterplan Southeast. Ajax and Amsterdam will soon be even more connected with each other due to these developments.”
