Excellent services – Freiburg – Badische Zeitung

Honorary evening at the Freiburg Gymnastics Association from 1844.

Well over 100 athletes from the Freiburg Gymnastics Federation from 1844 (FT) were able to achieve numerous honorable successes in 2019 and – despite many competitions canceled due to corona – also in 2020.

The outstanding athletes of these two years were honored together with the long-term members who have been loyal to the club for 25, 40, 50 and 60 years at the honor evening in the club’s three-field hall.

FT President Norbert Nothhelfer welcomed the many active people, their trainers as well as the long-term members and invited guests, among whom numerous local councilors were to be found.

The athletes of the FT brought several top placements and titles at international, national and regional championships to Freiburg, for example from the departments cheerleading, fencing, apparatus gymnastics, judo, pétanque, roller art skating, swimming, speed skating, table tennis, water jumping and volleyball. For example, the cheerleading group “Nuggets” took third place at the 2019 World Championships, the roller skater Julia Schmid became European champion, Sven Hennig, who now plays for the regional table tennis team, became German U18 champion, and Bundesliga gymnast Chiara Moiszi first at the Olympic Youth Cup . And – as is already a tradition – the extreme runner Brigid Wefelnberg received another award: The FT athlete achieved second place in the 1000-kilometer run in Mauritania and trained with virtual runs during the Corona period. With the kilometers covered there, she collects donations for a tent school for Syrian children in Lebanon.
