On the list, the Argentine received 645 votes, which would make him number seven. An improvement on his record. Lewandowski finished second in the results, Benzema third, Jorginho fourth and Cristiano Ronaldo fifth. Romelu Lukaku and Kevin De Bruyne would finish eleventh and twelfth respectively.
Something similar happened in 2018, when Luka Modric won the Ballon d’Or. The list had already been leaked by then. Voting for this year is already closed. The award ceremony is scheduled for November 29.
