Jakarta

Denmark must recognize Indonesia’s superiority in the 2020 Thomas Cup semifinals. Denmark actually hopes to face Indonesia in the final round.

Denmark and Indonesia met in the 2020 Thomas Cup semifinals. In the match at Ceres Arena, Aarhus, Saturday (16/10/2021), Denmark, which acted as the host, lost 1-3 to Indonesia.

Viktor Axelsen had brought Denmark ahead after defeating Anthony Sinisuka Ginting in the first party. However, they had to admit the superiority of Indonesia, which won the next three matches.

Danish men’s singles, Hans-Kristian Vittinghus, admitted that Indonesia deserved to win over his team. However, he actually has hope to face Indonesia in the top party.

“The dream final we hoped for did not happen because we were in the same section as Indonesia in the draw. At least for me it was a dream final, I want to face them in the final,” said Vittinghus in a podcast on Anders Antonsen’s Youtube channel.

“We faced them in the semi-finals, losing in a tight battle. But throughout the week they proved to be the better team and they deserved to beat us too,” said the men’s singles world number 20.

Indonesia finally came out as champion of the 2020 Thomas Cup after defeating China with a score of 3-0 in the final round. Anders Antonsen admits that Indonesia deserves to be the champion.

“Congratulations to Indonesia. Very worthy. What an extraordinary team,” said Antonsen, who is the world’s number three in the men’s singles.

“I see them as favorites in this tournament. Two great men’s doubles. And of course the men’s singles are very strong, there are Anthony Ginting, Jonatan Christie and (Shesar Hiren) Rhustavito,” said Antonsen.
