Crystal Palace striker Wilfried Zaha victim of racist insults on social media after City game

Scorer in his team’s victory against Manchester City on Saturday (0-2), Crystal Palace player Wilfried Zaha was the victim of numerous racist insults after the match. The Ivorian shared the hateful messages he received on social networks and reacted strongly. “Color will always be the real issue, but that’s okay because I’ll always be BLACK AND PROUD,” the Premier League thirteenth striker wrote.

He had also suffered racist slurs in 2020. Prior to his team’s loss to Aston Villa on July 12, Wilfried Zaha had received racist threats, along with photos of the Ku Klux Klan.

On his Twitter account, the player posted an alert message: “People need to understand that whatever your age, your behavior and your words have consequences and that you cannot hide behind social media. It is important that the platforms seek out these individuals and remove them (from the networks). This isn’t the first time I’ve received messages like this, and I’m not the only player to receive them – it happens every day. It is not enough to be disgusted by the messages I have received and move on. It is not enough to say #nonauracism. We need action, we need education, things have to change, ”the striker explained.

In recent months, racist attacks against players have been increasing across the Channel. The French Manchester United Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial or the nugget of Arsenal, Bukayo Saka, had suffered these hateful insults.
