Ilshofen. The basketball players of the Hakro Merlins Crailsheim have reached the quarter-finals in the BBL Cup.

In a hard-fought and equally muddled game, the home side won 65:63 (35: 33/53: 53) after extra time against the MHP Giant Ludwigsburg. The most successful thrower of the game was Crailsheim’s TJ Shorts with 20 points. But Jaren Lewis turned the decisive throw 13 seconds before the end. The Ludwigsburg suffered the second setback within four days after the 67:73 defeat in the Bundesliga at the newly promoted MLP Academics Heidelberg.

The Niners Chemnitz and Basketball Löwen Braunschweig had already moved into the next round. The so far undefeated Chemnitz team prevailed against ratiopharm Ulm in their first participation in the cup with 87:85 (38:37). The home side made the better decisions at home and could also rely on Darion Atkins, who set up 19 points. Braunschweig made it clearer in the Lower Saxony derby against BG Göttingen, which had been in the top four tournament last year, and won with 97:77 (45:45).
