Colombia finished the fifth day in fifth place in the Qualifiers. It should be remembered that Sunday’s date corresponded to one that could not be played at the beginning of the year, due to travel problems on the part of the players to South America. So the duel against Brazil still corresponded to the first round of the contest.
With that tie, Colombia completed that first round of duels with 11 units, adding the tie against Uruguay and the victory against Chile, which correspond to the second round, completing the 15 points.
On the way to the World Cups, the tricolor has had good results in that first round of all-against-all duels. Starting with the Qualifiers where he achieved the classification, as in France 1998, Brazil 2014 and Russia 2018, he obtained 17 points and 16 respectively, being well placed for the auction of the competition. In the two previous editions of the world cups, he scored 14 points in the second round in Brazil, but on the way to Russia, he only added 11.
Similar case in France, where he added 11 units to finish the Qualifiers. For the 2002, 2005 and 2010 editions, it barely achieved 15, 9 and 10 points respectively. In Korea it was left out of the playoffs by goal difference, while in Germany it did not reach the 15-point comeback in the second round.
In that order of ideas, Colombia with the 11 points from the first round and the four that it has added so far in the second round, will need to win everything that remains at home, which is four games, to reach 27 units. (without counting the visitor commitments), in this way, it would be very close to getting the quota to Qatar.
