Clear victory against Piraeus – Europe unity is back

For several years, Eintracht from Frankfurt has been inspiring people across the city limits in Europe. And this year, too, the Hessians are slowly gaining traction again.

While there was a damper in the Bundesliga at Hertha BSC, it has Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League convince again. Against Olympiakos Piraäus the “Adlerträger” celebrated a 3-1 home win and jumped to the top of the group D table. The goals for Eintracht were scored by Rafael Borré (26th minute), Almamy Touré (45th + 3) and Daichi Kamada (59th) . Youssef El-Arabi (30th) scored for the guests from Greece.

That’s how the game went

It was noticeable to the Frankfurters from the start that they wanted to apologize to the fans for the performance against Hertha BSC last Saturday. Because instead of a tired and listless performance, the Hessians presented themselves as dynamic and active. Kamada appeared twice in front of Olympiakos’ case (13th, 18th). Borré’s header landed just over the goal (20th).

Piraeus became more defensive, Frankfurt more dominant. The SGE had a great chance after 23 minutes. Borré’s finish was slowed down, rolled towards the goal, but could just about be secured by keeper Vaclik. Three minutes later, the ball floundered in the net. Borré had given Eintracht the lead with a penalty.

But the 1-0 lasted only a short time. Because a standard from the right side was cleared by hand in the Frankfurt penalty area by Sechser Jakic. The action was unintentional, but punishable. Youssef El-Arabi converted the penalty kick (30th).

As a result, the mood threatened to change, but Frankfurt found the answer at the last second before half-time. First Hinteregger headed a Kostic corner on the post, then Touré pushes a Sow cross pass over the line – cheers in Deutsche-Bank-Park (45th + 3).

“Black and white like snow” as a reward

In the second round, Eintracht played with a broad chest and increased to 3: 1 in the opening quarter of an hour. Goalkeeper Vaclik was able to fend off a shot from Paciencia, but not Kamada’s shot (59th). The leadership managed Frankfurt confidently, it was no longer really dangerous.

The Eintracht supporters celebrated their team by singing the song “Black and White Like Snow”, which the SGE also accompanied in the successful 2018/19 Europa League years when they made it to the semi-finals. With seven points after three group games, it at least looks like Frankfurt will get into the knockout phase this year as well.
