Bouriottes against Tujac: our game on the playgrounds in Brive (Corrèze)

We walk there, we run there, we cycle or do activities with the children… The playgrounds are popular places for Brivists. But which one is the best? Here is the result of our “match”.

The equipments. Tujac: 1 – Bouriottes: 0

At Bouriottes.
The Bouriottes playground, located near the Stadium, logically offers more rugby pitches: there are four, including a synthetic pitch.

There are also three small 7-a-side football pitches reserved for recreational use. Les Bouriottes is also equipped with a volleyball court, an archery range, a fitness area and a children’s play area.

In Tujac.
It is undoubtedly one of the coolest pieces of equipment from Brive in its category: the Tujac playground has a very nice play area for children. Its skatepark is also famous. Tujac also offers two fitness areas, a baseball field, three free access tennis courts, a volleyball court, a basketball court and a handball court, not to mention ping-pong tables.

In Tujac.

Land of football par excellence, Tujac has seven fields and two annexes, not to mention the Pestourie stadium and the future synthetic field, whose work is underway. On this point, the western plain is our preference.

Parking lots and access. Tujac: 0. Bouriottes: 1

The two playgrounds are now connected to the greenway. From the Cardinal Bridge, drive 3.5 km west to reach Tujac and 2.5 km east to reach Les Bouriottes.

On the safety side, still from the Cardinal Bridge, there are two bridges (and therefore two lanes) to cross to reach Les Bouriottes against only one for Tujac, to which must be added the Prieur footbridge, without a car but a little technical.

What is the route of the greenway in Brive and its surroundings?

The parking spaces are often full at Les Bouriottes (our readers are asking for additional parking); the Tujac plain car park has the advantage of being set back (“it’s safe with children”, assures a mother) but its coating has lived. We still vote for the Bouriottes, mainly because of the proximity to the city center and because accessibility also involves visibility: Tujac pays for its discretion. At Bouriottes.

The cleanliness. Tujac: 1 – Bouriottes: 1

Garbage cans and toilets are available in the two playgrounds. That said, our readers would like more, including sorting bins and additional water points.

According to the city of Brive, cleaning teams pass daily from Monday to Friday in the two plains, in order to ensure their maintenance. Unfortunately, this is not enough. The proof, each time cleaning operations are carried out, the quantity of waste collected is impressive.

In September 2020, a third grade class from Rollinat College in Brive had filled ten fifty-liter trash bags at Les Bouriottes.

Security. Tujac: 1 – Bouriottes: 1

In Bouriottes, surveillance by the gendarmerie is carried out as part of the service. “We are not in the situation of Lake Chasteaux for example, which is the subject of special surveillance in the summer because of a high influx. On the other hand, we regularly pass by, as with supermarkets, because it is a place that attracts people. But it is not a place of delinquency, ”assures Captain Duvivier, of the Brive gendarmerie company.

Same story for Tujac Park. “The municipal police make regular rounds,” we are told, but the requests for thefts or assaults are close to zero. National police patrols go to the site when there are reports and remain vigilant to intervene. When giving us their feedback, our readers have said very little about security. One of them asked for “active surveillance” in Tujac, another for the establishment of “video surveillance” in Bouriottes.

Biodiversity and revegetation. Tujac: 1 – Bouriottes: 0

in Tujac.
With 800 trees in Tujac against 350 in Bouriottes, the two sites are, in proportion, almost as many trees, even if the feeling of green space is more significant in Tujac.

Indeed, the area of Bouriottes corresponds to 48% of that of Tujac and the ratio of the number of trees is almost identical: 43%. To the west, the legacy of an old forest plot is still visible. Common oaks (including centenarians) and pedunculate oaks, chestnuts, birches, Atlas cedars, silver maples but also tulip trees and American copalms … A botanical trail set up in 2020 listing the remarkable trees and an alignment of 29 Japanese cherry trees further enrich the space.

Where can you find the six remarkable trees in the city of Brive?

In Les Bouriottes, we take advantage of the legacy of old farmland with some beautiful plane trees. Athletes evolve in the shade of Atlas cedars, silver maples, black walnut trees and gingkos biloba. The banks and their surroundings are home to common ash trees, black poplars, pedunculate oaks and locust trees. Bouriottes is the only plain where our readers have called for more trees, more shade and more flowers.

And the winner is …
According to our criteria, the playing field of Tujac is one point ahead of that of Bouriottes (4-3). But one thing is clear: the Tujac plain suffers from a lack of notoriety and visibility compared to its eastern twin, in particular because it is not located on the roadside. The Bouriottes, they suffer from their popularity. But isn’t the best plain just the closest to home?
