Andreas Seppi surprisingly dropped out on Wednesday at the Challenger tournament in Ismaning, which is endowed with 44,820 euros. The 37-year-old Kalterer, who was seeded number 3 in Bavaria, had to bow to Poland’s Kacper Zuk (ATP 163) in three sets with 6: 4, 4: 6, 6: 7 (4) in the round of 16.

A bitter pill for the South Tyrolean when you consider how confidently he won his opening match against local hero Tobias Kamke on Monday. Seppi brought the Germans to their knees 7: 5, 6: 3 in 1:14 hours of play. Even today Seppi went into the game as the favorite, he is 65 places ahead of Zuk in the world rankings. The 22-year-old Pole got the upper hand in Ismaning in Round 1 against Vitaliy Sachko from Ukraine 6: 2, 6: 4.

Today’s match was very even. Up to 5: 4 from the South Tyrolean perspective, both players took the serve twice, with Seppi in the meantime even leading 3: 0 and 5: 2. In the tenth game, the world number 98 secured itself. from the Überetsch then the decisive, third break to win the 6: 4 set.

In the opening game of the second part of the game it was Zuc who broke Seppi to make it 1-0. The Pole skilfully controlled the lead, allowed only very little on his own serve (a breakball for Seppi in the fourth game) and also took set 2 with 6: 4 points. In the third set, the Kalterer managed the break to 3: 1, but Zuk countered a little later with the rebreak to 3: 4. Then both players were able to hold their serves up to 6: 6. In the tie-break it was Zuk who had the longer breath and after a little more than two hours of play turned his first match point to the 7: 4 final score. A real damper for Seppi, who now has to worry about remaining in the top 100 of the world rankings.
