Belgium: Lierse supporter for more than 70 years, he dies after a heart attack in full match

He was a supporter of Lierse, who has been playing in the Belgian 2nd division this season, since he was 10 years old. At the age of 86, Frans Van Parijs died in the theater of his passions, which he had therefore frequented for more than 70 years. He collapsed in the stands of the Herman-Vanderpoorten stadium after his favorite team’s equalizing goal on Wednesday against Leuven in the Belgian Cup (1-2). Initially conscious, the man walked out to applause from the audience and then was revived at the stadium after play was interrupted. But he died in the evening at the Antwerp hospital

“The silence during the match break was chilling. The emergency services did everything in their power. As a club, we would like to thank the OHL doctor and that of our club, the members of the Red Cross, our stewards and all the staff for their quick intervention ”, wrote the Lierse club which paid tribute to his bear gone. “He had followed the club on all his travels in Europe and in all weathers,” continues the club’s statement on the site.

Frans Van Parijs was present in the stands when Lierse took Leeds United to the European Cup at Elland Road in 1971.
