Bayern professional Hernandez does not have to go to prison

Bayern Munich’s world champion Lucas Hernandez does not have to start his six-month prison sentence in Spain on Thursday. Section 26 of the Regional Court in Madrid has granted the French national soccer player’s appeal against the arrest warrant and suspended the enforcement of the judgment.

“We are of the opinion that the appeal should be upheld and the custody date will be lifted,” said the court in a statement. The sentence was suspended for four years. In addition, the court issued a fine of 240 daily rates of 400 euros (96,000 euros) each against the 25-year-old.

Hernandez was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment in December 2019 for violating a ban on approach and contact with his current wife. Last week he appeared in court in Madrid to receive the order of the sentence.

In February 2017, both the then professional from Atletico Madrid and his girlfriend were sentenced to 31 days of community service after an argument over domestic violence. In addition, a ban on contact was issued.

Hernandez and his girlfriend reconciled after the argument and married a few months later. On his return from his honeymoon, the Frenchman was arrested for violating the non-contact ban, which continues to apply.
