ATP Vienna: Alexander Zverev wins the final against Frances Tiafoe

Zverev, who went into the game with a 5-1 record against the American, set the first pinprick of the final with the break to 3-1. Tiafoe was unimpressed and countered with two game wins in a row.

It was an open duel in the Wiener Stadthalle, with slight advantages for Zverev.

The German acted more aggressively, hit more winners in the first set (17:11) and, thanks to the break, took the lead to 7: 5 after 46 minutes.

Zverev and Tiafoe sometimes tore the audience from their seats in the second set – which was due to spectacular rallies.

The point to 2: 2, where Tiafoe annoyed the world number four with several stops, was such a moment. But Zverev could once again rely on his outstanding service game.

Even more: In the tenth game he managed – again by break – the game to 6: 4.

“I’m an Olympic champion, I’ve won two Masters and two 500 tournaments – that’s hard to beat,” said Zverev after the game, which lasted an hour and 35 minutes.
