ATP> Mark Petchey (ex-80th) on Zverev’s double fault on match point: “It is not a mental problem but a technical one”

Alexander Zverev failed again.

On his first match point against Fritz, he committed the irreparable with a double fault. It must be said that this is not the first time that on a very important point the German player has cracked his stake. Many think that this is linked to a mental not strong enough.

For Mark Petchey, doubles specialist in the 90s, the mind cannot be the reason for this failure. According to him, ‘Sascha’ has a technical problem. To properly identify the problem, the Briton therefore took a pencil which supports his analysis.

“As much as people think Zverev’s service issues are mental, I don’t think so. The racquet comes from so far to the right that it ends up promoting the “server” position before the ball is thrown. The movement of the racket on this diagonal does not help at all ”, explains Mark who indeed thinks that the movement of the racket before hitting comes from way too far.
