The national team Elia Fregnan (Archers of Torrazzo) 141-139.

Next weekend the Italian Championships reserved for the Olympic division will be held in the same location, which will also see the Azzurri protagonists in the Olympics and Paralympics in this case.

At the 59th Italian Outdoor Target Shooting Championship the absolute Italian titles of the compound division were awarded today at the “Rino Gritti” Municipal Stadium in Verdello (Bg).

Yesterday the 72 ranking round arrows were disputed that assigned the class titles and defined the grid of direct clashes with the best 16 of the men and women who today, starting from the round of 16, faced each other up to go to dispute the matches valid for the podium.

Next weekend it will be the turn of the Tricolors reserved for the Olympic division, which will see the athletes competing in the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Just as it was in these two days of competitions for the compoundists of the National team, including those of the Para-Archery National team. In fact, it is no coincidence that the Italian winner in Japan of the compound open individual bronze at the Yumenoshima Park Archery Field, Maria Andrea Virgilio from Trapani, was again a great protagonist at the Gritti di Verdello.

MOCCIA D’ORO, VIRGILIO RECORD – The blue athlete, who arrived in the province of Bergamo as outgoing champion because in the last edition of the Italian Championships held in 2019 in Lignano Sabbiadoro she was the first Paralympic athlete in the division to win an absolute Italian title. However, the athlete of the Diamond Archery Palermo did not manage to repeat the tricolor and had to settle for silver, because the winner of the absolute Italian title was an excellent Andrea Nicole Moccia, a Milanese athlete born in 2002, under the Venetian company Arcieri del Torresin who, after winning the junior continental title in the blue jersey at the European Championships in the field shooting specialty in Porec (Cro), was able to celebrate an unexpected first absolute gold in the outdoor tricolor.

The challenge ended 144-139 in favor of Moccia, who made good use of some arrows too oversized by Virgilio: after the initial 29-28 for Moccia, the second volley was decisive for the fate of the match, which ended on 30-26 in favor of the young Lombard athlete from Bellusco, while the other partials ended 28-28, 28-29 and 29-28. In practice, the Sicilian athlete was unable to maintain the same average as the previous challenges, especially considering that in the quarter-finals he had scored 148 points, which earned him the new Italian Paralympic record on 15 arrows (improved by 2 points the previous one of Eleonora Sarti), in addition to having equaled the world record for the para-archery of the British Jessica Stretton, obtained in 2019 at the World Championships in the Netherlands.

Virgilio had reached the final after beating Maria Michelle Bombarda 141-139 at 1/8, Anna Rocca 148-143 in the quarterfinals and Elisa Roner in the semifinal after an almost perfect play-off, 147-147 (X-10).

Also for Andrea Nicole Moccia an exciting course: the athlete of the youth national team beat Sara Scancamarra 142-141 in the round of 16, the blue Sara Ret 146-144 and Marcella Tonioli 146-142 in the quarterfinals and in the semifinals.

RADIANT MOC – Needless to say, at the end of the final, the blue was the face of happiness: “The Italian title nI wasn’t expecting it – said the winner of the Italian title – My goal was to shoot well for myself and be able to pass the round of 16 and then see how it would go to the quarterfinals. DI need to say that it went very well and I am very happy. Moreover I pulled against Maria Andrea Virgilio, who was very good in Tokyo. I cared and And statO thrilling. What awaits me for the future? I don’t know, I still have to train a lot and improve, then we’ll see what comes next. At the moment I have no expectations, I still have to grow ”.
BRONZE AT RONER – Before the final match for gold, the final for the third step of the podium was held. To go up and win the bronze medal was another junior national, Elisa Roner of Kosmos Rovereto. For the athlete from Trentino, who has already obtained more than one call-up with the senior national team, so much so that she returned a few days ago from the world championships in Yankton (USA) with her opponent in the final, the blue champion Marcella Tonioli (Arcieri Montalcino) who on the first day of competition he had obtained the senior class title with the best overall score (698). The challenge was very balanced and resolved with the last arrow, which ended at 144-143 for Roner.

BRUNO BIS D’ORO – If Virgilio failed to repeat the 2019 title, it was Marco Bruno degli Arcieri Iuvenilia who overcame Elia Fregnan (Arcieri del Torrazzo) 141-139 in the final.

This too was a challenge between Italian athletes: Bruno had been a starter at the European Field Shooting Championships in Porec from where he returned with a mixed team gold, an individual silver and a team silver, while Fregnan, who had won the title on Saturday Italian class obtaining the best score (704), he had been a starter at the Yankton Outdoor World Championships.

Marco Bruno managed to be more regular than his opponent during the final, up to +5 at the end of the fourth volley. Fregnan tried the comeback until the end, but with the last three arrows there were too many points to recover.

Excellent the path of the two athletes to reach the challenge that was worth the gold. The Emilian athlete, who passed the second round due to the forfeit of his opponent Carosati due to a family problem, had beaten Andrea Muzzioli 149-147 in the quarterfinals and Viviano Mior 147-145 in the semifinals. The Piedmontese archer, on the other hand, overtook Alessandro Bombana in the play-off 144-144 (X-10) in the first round, Fabio Ibba 146-141 in the quarterfinals and Federico Pagnoni 148-146 in the semifinal.
These are the words of Bruno after the victory: “Weather conditions they were similar to those of 2019 and it’s nice that the result was the same. It’s always nice to get to the end, I had a difficult path and in the final I didn’t shoot very well but there was a wind that needed to be interpreted. A very positive 2021, after the title in indoor I obtained excellent results at the European field, just a pity I didn’t do the same at the Italian specialty championships. The goal now is to further improve my level and try to have further great successes“.
To conquer the bronze was instead Viviano Mior (Kappa Kosmos Rovereto) who managed to get the better of Federico Pagnoni (Arcieri Montalcino) who took part in the competition trying to keep the time zone at bay, since after the World Championship he remained in Yankton for another 5 days to play the world cup final. The challenge between the two was resolved also in this case at the last volley, with the victory of Mior for 148-147.
