Anderlecht mourns the departure of Yves Capaert, historical figure of sport

It is with great sadness that Anderlecht learned of the death Thursday morning of Yves Capaert, a historical figure of sport in the town, particularly in the Cureghem district.

Yves Capaert is a man who has dedicated his life to young people and to social cohesion. “He was one of those who reached out to others and who always cared for the children and families who were around his Neko judo club. A sincere benevolence towards others to encourage young people to surpass themselves and see new perspectives in their lives, ”recalls Julien Milquet (cdH), alderman for Sports and Social Cohesion. “I want to send my deepest condolences to the club and its family. “

“He was a man of gold,” recalls Amin El Boujdaini, who took over the Neko club a little over a year ago, when Capaert began to be in poor health. “He sacrificed his life for young people. No matter where they came from, they accepted them all. Even the students who could not afford the lessons, they accepted them. The most important thing for him was that these young people did not hang out in the streets. “

“I started doing judo with him when I was 11 years old. He taught me for 15 years, ”continues the now 40-year-old judoka. “It is a huge honor for me and my big brother to be able to continue his work. “

This year, the Neko club received a proposal from the Francophone Belgian Judo Federation to organize the regional judo championship.

A tribute will be paid to Yves Capaert at the next Sports Awards ceremony for all of his work and his human commitment to others and to others. He was 80 years old.
